Project Lethal Sheethal: Poll to Pick the Winning Name!

I conducted a contest to name my consulting company.  Entries were collected through the blog, through email, in person, and on the phone.   I have narrowed down the choices and now it’s time to pick the winner.  The winner gets 10 hours of consulting to donate to their favorite non-profit!

Lethal Sheethal

Lethal Sheethal

I recently starting a company offering online marketing, analytics and social media consulting for non-profits.

Please see the About Lethal Sheethal page to learn more about what I do and how I do it.

The name I originally brainstormed was taken by a theater company.  I don’t want to cause confusion and compete with them.  Plus, the .com domain for this name was taken already.

So I thought it would be inspiring and fun to tap my network of brilliant friends and colleagues to crowdsource the name.

I would like the name to evoke any or all of the following traits –

  • STRATEGIC – Plan, implement and measure your organization’s online marketing communications
  • USER-FOCUSED – Obtain meaningful feedback from patrons and constituents to guide your work
  • LISTENING-BASED – Hear what people are talking about through social media and manage your reputation online
  • RESEARCH-DRIVEN – Use qualitative research and analytics to measure your goals
  • SIMPLE TO IMPLEMENT – Online marketing can be easy, I promise!
  • ME – Please see Lethal Sheethal to learn about what I do and also my work with Financial Literacy
  • POSITIVITY – I started my company to work on meaningful projects for organizations affecting positive social change
  • FUN – Life is fun, the internet is fun

Choosing a good name

Here are some naming tips from an article I read about choosing a good name.

A good name has these main characteristics:

  1. It’s easy to remember
  2. It’s easy to spell and requires no explanation
  3. It describes your business category
  4. It describes your benefit
  5. It describes your difference
  6. The .com must be available

Some examples of companies that fit this criteria: BestBuy, PayPal, Black Planet, Robin Hood

I’m not wedded to the 2 syllable thing because there are tons of good words and smart people who can read more than 2 syllables but the .com has to be available.  To check this, visit godaddy.com or register.com, type in the name and the site will tell you if the name has been registered already.

Some name inspiration: Greek, Indian or Norse gods that provide counsel, animals, nature, rock climbing

Once I’ve narrowed down the choices, I’ll conduct a poll to pick the winner.  If you win, you can use the consulting hours for your organization or donate them to an organization of your choice.  (It must be a non-profit or public-service organization.)
